Tried Threads Yet? A Quick, In-Depth Beginner's Guide!

Author
郭政佑 Kevin

This article is mainly intended to help those who are considering joining or have just joined to quickly understand Threads. Currently, Threads can only be logged in using Instagram. After downloading the app, you can bind it by selecting the account you want to log in with.

Threads: What You Might Not Know? (Full Version)

1.Unlike Twitter, you can't post explicit content on Threads.

2.If you don't want to be constantly notified, you can delete the app first and reopen it after the hype has passed.

3.There are no format restrictions, and you can post vertical photos, horizontal photos, and videos at the same time.

4.Like IG, there's a limit of 10 photos per post.

5.Content can be directly shared to your linked IG account's stories and posts.

6.Currently, posts can't be edited. If you make a mistake, you can only delete the post.

7.Unlike FB and IG, you can see replies from your personal page. Be careful with your comments, but witty comments could become a feature.

8.You can mute a post by clicking on the top right corner of the post.

9.When writing a post, leaving three lines blank will automatically create a new Thread.

10.You can use Threads to post multiple photos and accompany them with text descriptions.

11.Your linked IG account will have a Threads number. If it doesn't, remember to update IG.

12.Threads can't play audio files. Symbols like ' ▶ 0:30 III|I''II|III|I|I''II|III||I’' are misleading.

13.Clicking on the IG icon at the top right of your personal page will take you back to your IG account.

14.To switch accounts, you have to log out and then choose a new account.

15.You can hide the number of likes on your posts. There's currently no analytics feature, so you won't have to worry about analytics anxiety for now.

16.There's a 500 character limit for content. If you exceed this, it will automatically be added to a new Thread.

17.Video length is limited to 5 minutes.

18.Click on the black '+' next to the profile picture to follow.

19.Click on the top right of the post to reply to someone. You can limit who can reply to your posts.

20.Currently, there's no #hashtag feature.

21.The share feature looks like a refresh symbol (those who use Twitter should be familiar with this).

22.You can customize words that followers can't reply with in your privacy settings (like swear words or inappropriate language).

23.The 'Take a Break' feature allows you to set a reminder to take a break for 10, 20, or 30 minutes in 'Account'.

24.If you have linked IG, you can't update your name from Threads.

25.Click on the three bars at the top right of your IG personal page to see Threads. Clicking on it will bring up your invitation card.

26.Click on the logo at the top of the page to switch between light and dark mode. For iPhone, you can't switch directly. Just go to phone settings and change 'Display & Brightness' to dark mode.

27.Don't worry if you didn't follow everyone at the beginning. After entering, click on 'Followers', a follow list will pop up, and you can follow everyone.

28.If you want to delete your Threads account, you must also delete your Instagram account.

29.It's recommended to check the instructions in the settings. The explanations about the features and restrictions are very detailed.

Finally, feel free to click on the profile picture '+' to follow me. I post in both English and Chinese from time to time.

I've also created an IG post, feel free to share it with friends who might find it useful.

The 'link in bio' tool I'm using supported Threads icon on the very first day of its launch, highly recommended.
